New Delhi, April 26 : The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the incidents of hate speeches occurring in the country despite its guidelines on preventive measures to be taken by government authorities. A Bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar expressed unhappiness and concern over such activities. The court directed that all necessary steps will have to be taken in this regard. “We direct the Chief Secretary of the Uttarkhand to place the above position on record and to state the corrective measure taken by the authorities as and when required,” the court said. The lawyer for the Uttarakhand government submitted that all the preventive measures have been taken as needed. During the hearing, Kapil Sibal, appearing for one of the petitioners, pointed out to the Supreme Court that he has got some information that an event has been planned at Roorkee of the same kind for on Thursday. To this, the Supreme Court said, please list the matter on May 9 along with other connected matters. The court was hearing the pleas seeking action against alleged hate speeches at the Dharam Sansad held in Himachal Pradesh a week ago. The Supreme Court also pulled up the governments of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and asked why its guidelines were not implemented. “You say trust us, but what we are seeing on ground is something different. You must stop this,” the court said.
